Playing Together for a Brighter Beginning: Event FAQ


Thank you for signing up and being part of the 8th Annual Playing for a Brighter Beginnings fund raiser.  Here are a few answers to questions you may have.

When should I arrive?

Golfers: Check in at 12:30 PM at the main club house.  You will have time to hit at the driving range and practice putting.  Official Tee time is 1:30 PM for a shotgun start.  Plan on eating lunch before you arrive, only simple snacks and beverages will be on the golf carts. Beer will be available for purchase for $5.
Tennis players: Arrive at 1:30 PM for a 2:00 start time. Tennis players will all play at Moraga Country Club.
Dinner Guests: Live music starts at 4:30 and happy hour starts at 5:00 PM but come by earlier if you want to catch some of the tennis action.  Dinner is scheduled to start around 6:20 PM. Be sure to buy raffle tickets to the wine barrel early as we sell out every year!

Location and parking at Moraga Country Club

Moraga Country Club is located at 1600 St. Andrew’s Drive, Moraga, CA.

Plan on either parking in the Moraga Country Club lot or on the street. There will be no valet parking, but you can do a bag drop prior to parking and check-in. Tell them you’re playing in the tournament and your name.

I have a last minute emergency  and cannot attend!

Either call the appropriate person listed below the moment you know so that we can figure out a replacement in the tournament or find your own sub and tell them to check in with your name.  There are no refunds and the registration fee will be considered a donation to support Brighter Beginnings programs.

What should I expect at check-in?

Please arrive by the above check in times as we cannot start play until all the players are accounted for.  If you are going to be late call one of the people listed above.  You will be asked for a credit card at check in to be used to purchase extra drink tickets $5 each, Instant Wine Cellar raffle tickets $20 each or 6 for $100 or participate in the Live Auction and Fund A Need.  If no purchases are made there will be no charge but this simplifies our staff follow up after the event.

What should I wear?

Casual-nice is perfect, though tennis and golf wear is also fine– but bring something to cover up as the happy hour is on the patio and can get chilly.  Golf or tennis players who want to do a quick change can use the locker rooms at the club.

Tournament Rules

Golf: All four players tee-off, the best ball of the tee shots is selected. Once the best drive is selected you will play your own ball throughout the remainder of the hole from the selected spot. The team score is total of the two best scores.

  • If the chosen shot is in the rough, a hazard, or out of bounds, shots must be taken from that lie, even if the fairway is within one club length away.
  • Men tee off from the white tees, and women from the red tees. Each team must use at least two tee shots from each player.
  • To speed play, cease putting at two over par, and take a double bogie as your score. Keep your foursome moving.
  • Contests on the course include hole-in-one (win a two-year car lease on Volkswagen Beetle), closest to hole, and most accurate drives.
  • Players may purchase mulligans at registration.

Tennis:   Some flights will have byes. There is a five-minute warm up for the first round. Each round will be 8 games no ad. At deuce, man serves man, woman serves to woman.  Give score to court monitor after each round. Tennis is expected to wrap up by 5:15pm.
