VITA Volunteers

Tax Preparer: Tax Preparers assist taxpayers with their tax returns during the tax filing season. Volunteers will complete a training course and become IRS certified to prepare taxes. Tax preparers can do an online tutorial "Link and Learn" and attend a workshop at Brighter Beginnings to certify. Bilingual tax preparers are in high demand. Brighter Beginnings needs at least 18 volunteer tax preparers!

Screener: Screeners are responsible for assisting clients with the intake form and ensuring taxpayers have the correct documents in order to file their tax return. This is a critical role as it is the initial point at which important filing information is gathered and verified.

Interpreter: Interpreters help taxpayers by working alongside the tax clients and Tax Preparers translating. Volunteers who speak Spanish are always needed. No training is required.
Security Guard/Greeter: Greeters stay at the front door of the building and welcome tax filers to the tax site. Greeters also provide the taxpayers with the intake information sheet.
