Success Stories

Kenia

I am a proud mother; I have been employed at the same job for six years, and in the spring of 2010, I will graduate from college.  None of this would have been possible without the help I received from Brighter Beginnings.

At 17 years old, I became pregnant. My mother was mad and disappointed because she saw other girls get pregnant and drop out of high school. But I was determined to show her that I could finish high school, go to college, and be a good mom, because I really wanted to keep my baby. But I needed help.

That’s when a friend referred me to Brighter Beginnings and I contacted them right away. Yolanda, my Family Advocate, came to my house and helped me learn how to be a good parent.  She taught me how to watch my baby grow and develop, learn about good nutrition and how to play with my son. One of the things I’ll never forget is how much she supported my dream to finish school. I have never seen someone so positive and supportive. With Yolanda, I felt like my dreams were important. That’s what Brighter Beginnings is all about – helping young moms like me achieve their goals.

My next goal is a Master’s Degree in Social Work. I know that if I work hard, I can accomplish whatever I want.  Today my mother calls me Mi Reyna (my queen). I would not be where I am today without the help from Brighter Beginnings! Please give generously so that other moms like me can have strong families!
