To families surviving on less than $1000/month, it’s no wonder payday loan operations are able to thrive in our communities. financial literacy is an essential tool for good decision-making and is as important as learning to read and write, Brighter Beginnings is helping clients understand how to open bank accounts, manage their money and make good financial choices.
Families with more financial stability are healthier and live longer. That’s why we include financial education in every family-strengthening intervention. Every new and existing Brighter Beginnings individual or family client completes a Financial Assessment. Then they are ready to participate in one of Brighter Beginnings’ Family Financial Fitness workshops.
Workshops are offered in both English and Spanish. The curriculum, delivered in six sessions, covers basic topics such as “Banking 101,” distinguishing between wants and needs, setting a budget and creating a Financial Action Plan of financial goals.
One-on-One Coaching every Family Advocate is trained in Financial Coaching and works individually with families to reinforce what clients learn and help advance the financial goals they’ve set.
SparkPoint Centers are financial education centers that help individuals and families who are struggling to make ends meet. SparkPoint helps our clients address immediate financial crises, get them back on their feet, and build financially secure futures. SparkPoint West Contra Costa is housed in our Richmond Family Strengthening Center. SparkPoint East Contra Costa is housed at the Ambrose Community Center where we also have Teen Family Support.
